Job Description
The neutron and x-ray scattering group in the Materials Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory has an open position for a postdoctoral appointee. The research will be focused on studying the magnetic correlations and dynamics in disordered magnetic systems as well as local atomic correlations in disordered structural lattices using neutron and/or X-ray scattering techniques. This will primarily involve measuring and modeling magnetic and structural diffuse scattering on compounds of interest.
Position Requirements
- A Ph.D. in physics, materials science, chemistry, or a strongly related field is required; received within the last 3 years or upcoming year
- Basic familiarity with scripting or programming to work with and analyze data.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
Desired:
- The ideal candidate should possess a solid experimental background in the magnetic and structural properties of hard materials.
- Experience with neutron and/or X-ray scattering will be useful but is not necessarily a prerequisite.
- Experience in modeling and working with large data sets will be beneficial.
