Postdoctoral Appointee - Experimental Quantum Communication and Networking (InterQnet)
Job posting number: #7210872 (Ref:417133)
Posted: January 26, 2024
The InterQnet project at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral position to conduct research in the field of experimental quantum communication and networking. The InterQnet project aims to demonstrate heterogeneous node quantum networking on Argonne’s campus and across the Chicago metropolitan area via fundamental building block experimental platforms and foundational architectural choices that can be applied to heterogeneous national-scale quantum networks. The focus of this position is the development of a networking node based on solid-state erbium (Er3+) ions coupled to high quality factor and low mode volume nanophotonic cavities. The goal is to employ the natural telecom optical transition and favorable spin properties of Er3+ to demonstrate several key protocols necessary for practical, robust, and scalable quantum communication. The successful candidate will work in Argonne’s Nanoscience and Technology Division, while also collaborating with a diverse set of researchers spanning a broad spectrum of fields relevant to achieving the goals of the InterQnet project.
- Ph.D. in atomic, molecular, and optical physics, or a related field. Received within the last 3 years or upcoming)
- Experience working with lasers and modulators as well as cryogenic systems.
- Experience designing and building experimental control and data acquisition systems.
- Strong background in quantum emitter-based defects, quantum networking, and quantum information science is preferred.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
The initial term for this position is 1 year and can be renewed annually for up to 3 years, dependent upon funding and performance.
Questions about the position should be directed to Alan Dibos (email@example.com). Please note that only applications through Argonne’s website will be considered.
Applications must include an updated CV, and will be reviewed upon receipt. Final position decisions are contingent upon receipt of three letters of recommendation. The position will remain open until filled.
