Familiarity with the finite element methods, python, population balance models, and C and C++ would be beneficial. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Develop, improve, and implement computational models for simulating coupled problems involving fluid mechanics and mass transport in coating flows for manufacturing. + Develop and apply models to understand crystallization phenomena from solution. Work on implementation of crystallization models with population balance methods coupled to fluid flow. + Conduct research to validate models, present and publish results. + Travel 2-4 times per year to participate in program meetings. The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary. Qualifications We Require: + Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, or related field is required to start + Experience with computational modeling and using the Linux operating system + Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Demonstrated ability to work in large, multi-disciplinary teams + Familiarity with standard programming languages including C, C++, and numerical analysis packages, such as Matlab. + Experience using and/or writing scientific finite element codes + Experience in modeling multiphase transport, materials science, and chemical processes, particularly in the area of chemical reactions and thermodynamics + Demonstrated capability preparing and presenting briefings to technical peers and program and line management (internal and external) + Ability to work towards a constantly changing target, with intermittent sprints and hard deadlines About Our Team: We conduct applied research on the structure and behavior of complex engineered material systems exhibiting coupled physical processes that span multiple length and time scales. This research encompasses theoretical/computational and experimental methods and analysis of energetic (propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics) and soft materials (complex fluids, aerosols, polymers, powders and particles) and multiphase/composite systems. We support partner organizations in scientific assessments for design, production, performance and safety of material systems (e.g., critical components) as well as in the development and manufacturing of novel materials for high consequence, extreme environment applications. Posting Duration: This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
