Job Description
Applications are invited for post-doctoral positions in the Cosmological Physics and Advanced Computing Group (CPAC) Group in Argonne National Laboratory’s High Energy Physics (HEP) Division. Cosmological research within CPAC covers theory, modeling, and observations targeted at dark energy, dark matter, primordial fluctuations, inflation, and neutrinos. Theory and modeling activities emphasize multi-wavelength survey science, the galaxy-halo connection, cluster cosmology, and large-scale cosmological simulations. Analysis efforts cover topics such as CMB power spectra, CMB lensing, galaxy clustering, redshift-space distortions, and weak and strong gravitational lensing. The observational focus is on optical sky surveys (DES, DESI, Roman, Rubin Obs/LSST, SPHEREx), CMB instrumentation and observations (CMB-S4, SPT), and cross-correlations between the two.
The cosmology effort at Argonne includes staff members from the CPAC group (Matt Becker, Amy Bender, Lindsey Bleem, Katie Harrington, Andrew Hearin, Katrin Heitmann, Eve Kovacs), the Computational Science division (Michael Buehlmann, JD Emberson, Nicholas Frontiere, Salman Habib, Patricia Larsen, Adrian Pope, Nesar Ramachandra, Esteban Rangel) and the HEP Detector Group (Clarence Chang, Gensheng Wang). Current CPAC postdocs are Gillian Beltz-Mohrmann, Florian Keruzore, Zhaodi Pan, Alan Perl, Markus Rau, and Enia Xhakaj; the group also includes a number of graduate and undergraduate students.
Postdocs can benefit from strong collaborations with applied mathematicians, computer scientists, device physicists, materials scientists, and statisticians; they will also have access to state-of-the-art microfabrication facilities and world-leading supercomputing resources. Interactions with research groups at Fermilab, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University are highly encouraged.
