Postdoctoral Appointee - MSD - Emerging Materials
Argonne National Laboratory
Lemont, USA
Job posting number: #7187409 (Ref:416701)

Job Description
Argonne National Laboratory has an opening in our Material Science Division for a Postdoctoral Appointee. One project aims to predict, design, and understand synthetic pathways that can selectively address and mitigate minority atom arrangements that produce electronic interface defects. The appointee will develop and leverage selective interface reactions, an atomic layer deposition (ALD)-based synthesis approach, to direct vapor-phase surface reactions that are chemically tailored to selectively repair electronically unfavorable sites without compromising the integrity of desirable sites. Electronically unfavorable sites will be probed with electrochemical analysis of oxide interfaces. A second project aims to investigate solar fuels catalysts and photosensitizers supported at electrode interfaces and interrogate them under functional interfacial photoelectrochemical operation. The appointee will resolve fundamental mechanisms, structures, and structural dynamics during complete multi-step water-splitting and fuels catalytic cycles using ex situ and operando synchrotron X-ray enabled methods.
Position Requirements
This position will require interdisciplinary and collaborative work (as part of materials science and chemistry teams with expertise in characterization/computation/synthesis) that includes electrochemistry, vapor phase surface synthesis (atomic layer deposition), surface science, and advanced characterization methods.
Required
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field received within the last three years.
Must have demonstrated outstanding promise as a research scientist.
Strong applicants will exhibit strong basic science understanding, motivation, and an ability to originate, carry out, and publish significant original research.
Strong written and verbal skills.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
Preferred
Previous experience with electrochemistry, atomic layer deposition, synchrotron X-ray science, and chemical and physical characterization methods are desirable but not required.
