Job Description

Summary

Clinical research in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine has a long-standing tradition of excellence and propose the recruitment of a post-doctoral Pokorny Clinical Research Fellow. We continually strive to create an educational environment to maximize the academic potential of all our learners. Our goal is to train future leaders in pediatric surgery and continue meaningful contributions to the surgical care of children in Houston and nationally.

 

The Pokorny Clinical Research Fellow will pursue a 1-2 year mentored research experience in pediatric surgery and gain a better understanding of fundamentals of research, critical review of medical literature, success in academic surgery, career development, and how to write a manuscript.

Job Duties

  • Completes at least one independent project in collaboration with a faculty mentor with 1) submission for presentation at a national meeting and 2) completion of a manuscript of their research project.
  • Attends weekly clinical research meetings with the Division of Pediatric Surgery. Weekly updates on projects are given at this meeting.
  • Participates in the “Science and Summer” lecture series designed as an introduction for basic science, translational and clinical research trainees.
    • Research will be highlighted in multiple platforms, with anticipate submission and presentation at annual national meetings including the Academic Surgical Congress, the American Pediatric Surgical Association Annual Meeting, Canadian Association of Paediatric Surgeons Annual Meeting and the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Surgery. Local and institutional opportunities to showcase research include the Baylor Department of Surgery Research Symposium and the Texas Children’s Surgical Research Day.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The applicant must have excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail and be capable of independent as well as collaborative work, possess outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain excellent working relationships in a team environment.
  • Multitasking abilities, flexibility, and adaptability to changing and challenging environment are essential.
