Summary

The Chen laboratory in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, seeks a talented and self-driven postdoctoral associate to join our group.  With a combination of both experimental and computational approaches, our group provides an excellent environment for interdisciplinary research focusing on genetics and genomics in the visual system.  In addition, our lab is leading the effort of generating the spatially resolved single cell atlas of the human eye as part of the human cell atlas (HCA) project supported by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI).  Members in our group have diverse backgrounds, such as genetics, medicine, engineering, computer, and statistics.  Many cutting-edge technologies are utilized in our research, such as next-generation sequencing, single cell multi-omics, single cell spatial transcriptome, and deep learning, in combination with cell culture, retinal organoid, mice, and other animal models, offering excellent opportunities in cross-training to further expand your skills.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. 
  • Maintains laboratory operations.
  • Works closely with other lab members and our collaborators in the network to develop software tools and perform analysis of single-cell multi-omics, spatial transcriptomic data, and other omics data to generate the cell atlas of the human visual system and characterize diseases at the single-cell resolution.  
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science or other related disciplines.
  • Previous experience in analyzing large scale next generation sequencing and/or single cell omics data is a plus.  
  • Experience in both wet and dry lab.
