Job Description

Summary

A postdoctoral fellow (MD or PhD) position is available in the Ghanta lab in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery in Houston. We are seeking an enthusiastic scientist to undertake projects in the field of ischemic cardiomyopathy with a focus on immunomodulation and infarct repair. We utilize cutting-edge biotechnology and tools, including single-cell multi-omics and small and large animal models of cardiomyopathy to maintain a focus on potential clinical translation. This position requires an individual who is self-motivated. The scientist will work under the guidance of the principal investigator to plan and implement experiments working in an apprenticeship model for preparation for a career as a scientific professional. Prior experience working with animal models is highly desired though not mandatory. The successful applicant must be enthusiastic and willing to undertake projects in the field of ischemic cardiomyopathy with a focus on immunomodulation and infarct repair.

Job Duties

  • Plans research study design and conducts in vitro and in vivo experiments.
  • Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
  • Performs statistical analysis.
  • Writes manuscripts.
  • Supervises students and research assistants.
  • Presents data at lab meeting and national/international conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with in vivo experiments or surgery.
