Job Summary: 

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientist, the Research Fellow will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period in the field of cancer biology.  May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.  Analyzes and interprets data.  May assist in preparation of grant proposals.  Responsible for designing experiments, assembeling data for publications and presentations as author or co-author.  Not responsible for generating grant funds.  

Funded Postdoctoral Scientist position in Immunology and Cancer is available in Ekaterina Koltsova Lab at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Our lab research interests are to uncover and define immune-mediated mechanisms regulating inflammation as a common denominator  of various immune-mediated pathologies such as atherosclerosis, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), obesity and cancer. We are interested to elucidate mechanisms of how distinct cytokines as a key auctionable regulators of inflammation  shape  inflammatory environment during the disease pathogenesis. We study the intersection  between cytokine signaling and effects of microbiota and microbial metabolites on inflammation and cancer development. 

Main research directions in the lab include:

1)    The role of inflammation and cytokines in liver cancer of different etiologies
2)    Link between  host microbiome, metabolites, inflammation and atherosclerosis 
3)    How cytokines regulate hematopoietic stem cells  to promote  cardiovascular disease development
4)    The role of cytokine signaling in adipose tissue inflammation and atherosclerosis
The lab has recently relocated to Cedars-Sinai and we are looking for passionate scientists who can work independently but in a close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other scientists in the lab. Successful candidates will be able to contribute to current projects in the lab as well as to develop their own line(s) of research within the broad scientific interests of the lab.
Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period in the fields of immunology and cancer biology and will be responsible for conceptual and technical contribution to drive exciting projects forward.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

•    May assist in preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
•    Responsible for the designe of experiments in cooperation with the mentor. 
•    Responsible for compiling figures and text for the submission of publications and presentations as author or co-author. 
•    Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the mentor. 
•    May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
•    Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period.
•    Operates and maintains equipment and instruments. 
 


Educational Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree    
Master's Degree    
Doctorate Degree    Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in in biomedical sciences, pharmacology, or an area directly related to field of research specialization, with demonstrable laboratory experience in drug discovery and natural products research, and in vivo mouse models for antitumor efficacy and pharmacology.

Experience:

Minimum:

Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.  
Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.  
Experience as a first author in one or more publications on impactful body of work.
Demonstrable laboratory experience (1-4 years) in drug discovery and natural products research, in vivo mouse work, antitumor efficacy, and pharmacology, with some experience in molecular biology, tumor cell biology, microbiology, and protein purification and production. 

Works independently on broad research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.  
Experience as a first author in one or more publications on impactful body of work.

Preferred:

The knowledge of liver biology and anti-cancer immune response is preferable
The knowledge of bioinformatics is beneficial

Physical Demands:

Requires high degree of manual and finger dexterity. Involves extensive sitting for long periods of time. Involves frequent walking throughout the institution. Involves working irregular hours.
