Job Description

In this R&D Engineer role you will design, modify, test, and maintain Radiofrequency (RF) systems and components including high-vacuum systems that support high power RF amplifiers and RF power distribution systems for the Advanced Photon Source (APS) linear accelerator, (Linac), Particle Accumulation Ring (PAR), Booster Synchrotron, and Storage Ring RF systems.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience with RF components design, fabrication, and testing, including RF transmission lines components from 10 MHz to 3 GHz.
  • Operational knowledge and experience of RF cavities, tuners, couplers,  electronic instrumentation, and interlocks for RF Systems.
  • Experience and skill to read and create general electrical and electronic schematic diagrams.
  • Ability in understanding complex systems and troubleshoot, identifying, and isolating problems.
  • Knowledge of multi-kilowatt continues-wave RF amplifier systems including solid-state power system and related support hardware.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design of the radiofrequency-specific components is a plus.
  • Knowledge of high-vacuum systems supporting radiofrequency systems is a plus.

RD2 Requirements: Bachelor's Degree & 5+ years of experience, Master's Degree & 3+ years of experience, or a Doctorate Degree.

RD3 Requirements: Bachelor's Degree & 8+ years of experience, Master's Degree & 5+ years of experience, or a Doctorate Degree & 4+ years of experience
