Job Description

The Brain Dynamics Laboratory seeks to investigate intracranial signals recorded from the human brain, using advanced neuroengineering methodologies to characterize the inherent dynamical transitions and network activity underscoring healthy and disease conditions. A particular focus is on epilepsy and the analysis of multimodal data, including multi-site spatiotemporal electrophysiological recordings collected in vivo, to develop and implement dynamics-based surgical decision-making. Data-driven methods are drawn from computational signal processing, data science (including machine learning and artificial intelligence-based techniques), neurophysiology, mathematics, physics, statistics and econometrics, amongst other disciplines. The lab functions within the auspices of the Epilepsy Center at the Cleveland Clinic and resides within the Neurological Institute, with close affiliations to the Department of Biomedical Engineering (Lerner Research Institute). As a developing research hub, it seeks to establish a widely collaborative network with diverse scientific teams, to drive the investigation and development of techniques and technologies with clinical and surgical impact. The Brain Dynamics Laboratory seeks qualified individuals aspiring to advance a research career in neuroengineering and neuromodulation, while closely working with a team of clinical and research specialists.

The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to:

  • Advance training in neuroengineering-based signal analysis of human intracranial EEG signals; data science (including machine learning and AI); data-driven computational modelling; neurophysiology; and surgical approaches to the investigation and treatment of epilepsy as a network disorder, including neuromodulation-based therapies.
  • Access state-of-the-art clinical/research facilities while gaining familiarity with the work-up, management and surgical management of epilepsy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research together with neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, neuropsychologists, neuroscientists and engineers.
