Job Description

Summary

A Postdoctoral Associate position in mechanistic enzymology is available in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Baylor College of Medicine. The laboratory is interested in the structure and mechanism of antibiotic resistance enzymes. In particular, we are interested in the structural and mechanistic basis of action of naturally occurring, drug-resistant variants of -lactamase enzymes that result in the inactivation of -lactam antibiotics. These enzymes rapidly hydrolyze -lactam antibiotics and are a major source of bacterial drug resistance. Knowledge gained on the structure and mechanism of these -lactamase variants will be used for rational drug design. The studies will involve protein purification, pre-steady state enzyme kinetic analysis and X-ray structure determination.
