Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time. : The Material’s Science and Electrochemical Engineering team is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee with experience in electrodeposition. The position will be part of a large multi-discipline science project in which machine learning and robotics will be integrated with electroplating experimental work to accelerate both scientific discovery and technical innovation. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Design and implement electrodeposition experiments intended to elucidate connections between physicochemical properties not typically associated with one another. + Focus on discovering hidden variables via an artificial-intelligence-guided approach, with the hope that such discoveries will lead to new resilient materials and manufacturing processes.
+ PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field conferred within five (5) years of employment + Knowledge and expertise in electrodeposition (broadly defined) + The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
+ Experience in machine learning and/or robotics + Experience with coding + Strong scientific background as evidenced by a history of publication of results in peer-reviewed professional journals and presentations at appropriate scientific conferences + Effective communication and interpersonal skills that foster effective and scientific collaborations with a diverse population of researchers
The Electrochemical Engineering Department (5228) leverages a diverse capability set to provide science and technology products to enhance Sandia's national security missions. Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.
