This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. Employees must remain in their current position for one year before applying for a new position, with the exception of student interns. Any concerns about the ability to meet this requirement should be directed to HR Solutions at (505) 284-7400. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to work on solid state nano-ionic materials and devices for neuromorphic computing. The work will include materials and device fabrication, as well as electrical and structural characterization. Particular interest is on developing fundamental understanding of how ion-tunability of electronic structure can be exploited for ultra-low-power and brain-inspired computing. The candidate should be self-motivated, self-directed, and able collaborate creatively to team efforts. The candidate will be expected to present results at national/international meetings and publish research in high profile peer-reviewed journals.

Required:
+ PhD degree in physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field + Extensive experience in electronic materials, solid state ionics, and/or correlated oxides. + Familiarity with micro- and nano-device fabrication, characterization, and electrical transport measurements + A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences. + Ability to hold a U.S. DOE L security clearance.

Department Description:

The Quantum & Electronic Materials Department (08345) advances the state-of-knowledge in quantum and electronic properties of materials, and collaborates closely with other domain knowledge experts to use these advances to enable and accelerate development of emerging non-conventional computing, communication, quantum information devices, and sensors. Research efforts include: advanced materials and device concepts for ultra-low-energy computing and sensing, nano-electronics, quantum topological materials, quantum-confined low-dimensional systems, advanced materials and device concepts for neuromorphic computing, materials synthesis and device fabrication, and computational and theoretical condensed matter physics.
