Job Description


A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Wei Cao in Huffington Center on Aging to study the role of neuroinflammation and relevant pathogenic events in neurodegenerative disease.

We are a close-knit group looking for an enthusiastic new member. The focus of the immediate project is to elucidate mechanisms of neuroinflammation and to identify the key pathways and factors involved in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by examining various CNS cells and analyzing mouse disease models. Additional projects will investigate cellular elements that regulate innate immunity in the aging brain and/or under the context of AD pathogenesis. Other areas of our research interest include devising strategies to target AD-relevant inflammatory and pathogenic mediators. 
Candidates with training in immunology, neuroscience, pathology, or related disciplines are welcome. Motivated individuals with expertise in cell biology, biochemistry, immunological assays, and in vivo disease modeling are preferred. Previous experience with microscopy, molecular biology, or stereology is a plus.  

Job Purpose

Postdoctoral Associates are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a career as a scientific professional.

Job Duties

•    Initiate, conduct, and lead research projects based on sound and innovative scientific hypothesis.
•    Develop technical expertise in areas such as genetic animal models, recombinant viral vectors, confocal imaging, molecular biology, multiomics, and animal behavior tests.
•    Plan, direct and conduct specialized and advanced research experiments, establish new research protocols and procedures, and evaluate and analyze data.
•    Summarize research findings, write, and publish results in research journals. 
•    Responsible for laboratory operations in a team environment. 
•    Participate in educational events such as journal club, presentation of research in both formal and informal settings on regular basis.
•    Collaborate with investigators outside the lab and main effective communication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
