Job Description

Summary

The Postdoctoral Associate will join a dynamic research team investigating neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Participation in national and international human genomics consortia foster remarkable opportunities to leverage fruit fly genetics to enhance gene discovery and functional validation. Current areas of interest include endo-lysosomal sorting, RNA metabolism/splicing, neuronal cell adhesion, and synaptic mechanisms. The most promising genetic pathways are also being pursued in mouse genetic models, giving us the power to translate findings from flies to both mammalian experimental systems and human population genetic data.

Job Purpose

Postdoctoral Associates are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a career as a scientific professional.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • May establish new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. 
  • May be responsible for laboratory operations.
  • May supervise research staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. and substantial experience in the field of Drosophila genetics.
