Summary

A bioinformatics postdoctoral scholar position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Hari Yalamanchili at the Neurological Research Institute (NRI), Baylor College of Medicine. We seek a passion driven scientist with strong quantitative background and expertise in developing and applying computational models to study the fundamental and translational aspects of human diseases. This position is available as part of a research project with specific goals of developing novel computational methods to integrate large-scale high-throughput genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic data sets. The postdoc will have the opportunity to interact with other computational and bench investigators and build a diverse range of expertise.

About the lab: 
Laboratory of Dr. Hari Yalamanchili focuses on: Design and development of various computational approaches to decode complex biological phenomena and underlying molecular interplay. Specifically, to decode cryptic splicing, alternative polyadenylation and gene regulatory networks in neurological disorders. Advancing RNA centric therapeutic approaches using data driven integrative machine learning techniques.

Job Duties

  • Develop new computational methods to integrate large-scale multi-omic datasets.
  • Work closely with other computational and bench scientists.
  • Ensure that project objectives are met as required by supervisor or collaborators.
  • Analyze high throughput Next Generation Sequencing datasets viz. RNA, ChIP, WGBS, Single-cell, etc.
  • Review existing pipelines and propose improvements.
  • Publish methods, software and application papers.
  • Conduct collaborative projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field.
  • Experience with bioinformatics algorithms, analytical pipelines and large-scale data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated a good publication record in scholarly journals.
  • Proficiency in a language such as R, Python, Pearl. Java, C/C++ is a plus.
  • Good understanding of statistics, machine learning. Deep learning experience is a plus.
  • Working in UNIX environment. Experience in HPC and AWS is a plus.
  • Scientific creativity and passion.
  • Effective collaborative nature.
  • Accepts ownership and motivated by tough challenges
