Job Description

The Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will design and perform experiments focused on effect of deamination on neurodegeneration, which will entail investigation of the role of deamination interactors and modulators including lipids. The proficiency in use of mass spectrometry, cell cultures, generation of primary neuronal cells, and use of animal models is expected. The goal would be to generate one high impact manuscript and a moderate impact manuscript per year on targeted projects in discussion with the Principal Investigator. The Postdoctoral Associate is required to submit an NIH F32 and a K99 application based on preliminary work within 9 months from date of hire. The performance evaluation will be based on these goals. In addition, the Postdoctoral Associate will be required to assist in maintenance of animal colonies, assume the leadership of all animal handling for the group and assist in ordering supplies for the group. Also assist the Principal Investigator in filling IACUC forms and with the needs of the regulatory issues of animal maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D., or other doctoral-level degree in a related field of study. Experience in lipid extraction, mass spectrometric identification, growing retinal ganglion cell culture is necessary. Experience in cellomics is optional that is, the experience is cellomics is a plus but not necessary.
