Job Description
Argonne National Laboratory is seeking candidates for an exciting new position in the Strategic Security Sciences (SSS) Division. The Division’s research focus areas are Nonproliferation Research, Analysis & Engagement; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Detection and Analysis; and National & Cyber Security Information Sciences. Our expertise spans science and technology research and development in the areas such as CBRN nonproliferation analysis and implementation including safeguards and export controls; nuclear and radiological material security; threat prevention, detection, and response and post-event recovery; detector testing and analysis; proactive cyber defense and situational awareness; and simulation, modeling, data analytics, and software development for mission critical operations.
The Hybrid Cyber Systems Engineer will provide design, implementation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance support for a variety of physical, virtual, cloud, and hybrid hardware and software deployments with a focus on security. Cloud and hybrid solutions may include infrastructure-, software-, and platform-as-a-service implementations. They will maintain and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network problems with SANs; hypervisors; database, application, and file servers; networking equipment; tape libraries; drivers; and OS installations. They will maintain and manage systems within Active Directory and/or LDAP and will evaluate systems for compliance with organizational security policies. The Hybrid Cyber Systems Engineer will be involved in full-stack solutions including servers, networking, operating systems, and applications, including the design, build, monitoring, and maintenance of such implementations. They will support cutting edge hardware and software implementations. Experience with server, switch, virtualization and other hardware configuration, administration, and troubleshooting is required. Experience with design, configuration, and support of cloud-based projects is required. Broad knowledge of cybersecurity principles and specific experience with cybersecurity for enterprise systems is required. This position may allow for a hybrid or remote work schedule and environment.
Position Requirements
Knowledge and experience with Windows and Linux servers.
Knowledge and experience with networking concepts and associated tools and equipment.
Knowledge and experience with operating systems security, encryption, and security aspects of server applications.
Knowledge and experience with virtualization concepts, technologies, and hypervisor administration.
Knowledge and experience with cloud offerings such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure, including infrastructure-, software-, and platform-as-a-service use cases.
Knowledge and experience with the application of cybersecurity principles to cloud-based projects.
Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and federal cybersecurity regulations.
Knowledge of design and administration of hybrid systems.
Knowledge of high performance computing environments.
Skill in maintaining and monitoring the security of computer network and interconnected hardware and software.
Skill in remote administration and troubleshooting of server and networking infrastructure.
Skill in applying and assessing security controls against varied computing systems per written security plans and policies.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill at organizing project tasks within time constraints.
Familiarly with common cybersecurity standards such as NIST 800-53, FedRamp or CMMC.
A successful candidate must keep abreast of current cybersecurity trends, threats, and defenses.

Other:
Ability to obtain and maintain a "Q" security clearance. Notification to prospective applicants for positions that require a "Q" or "L" security clearance: U.S. Citizenship is required. Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 will be conducted by Argonne, and a background investigation by the Federal government may be required to obtain an access authorization prior to employment. Subsequent re-investigations may be required.
The selected candidate will be placed in the appropriate level (PT2 or PT3) depending upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position. The requirements for the desired levels are as follows:
- PT2 Level: Bachelor’s and 2+ years; Master’s and 0+ years; or equivalent
- PT3: Bachelor's and 4+ years; Master's and 2+ years; or equivalent
