Job Description

Argonne’s Energy Systems and Infrastructure Analysis Division (ESIA) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to support the development of technologies and solutions for the integration of distributed energy resources (DER) and renewables into the power grid.

  • Perform modeling and analysis of large-scale distribution systems with DERs including EVs.

  • Develop distribution system state estimation algorithms and advanced DMS applications such as VVO, FLISR and network constraint management

  • Develop algorithms for the operation and optimization of microgrids and DERMS.

  • Develop solutions for aggregated DERs to support grid services and market participation

  • Develop cyber security solutions for DER integrated power grid and perform grid vulnerability and impact assessment under various cyber-attacks.

  • Support multidisciplinary teams in developing solutions and technologies to address complex problems in the domains of energy systems and the power grid.

  • Give seminars and prepare journal articles, technical reports, and presentations for conferences and workshops describing research areas and results of R&D efforts.

  • Support program development and client acquisition activities including the preparation of proposals, development of marketing materials, and participating in sponsor interactions.

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. in related engineering or science field +0-1 years.

  • Knowledge of power grid operation, modeling, and simulation.

  • Knowledge of one or more of the programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and simulation tools (e.g., OpenDSS, PSCAD, Opal-RT, RTDS, Simulink, LabView).

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Experience in academic writing and publication.

  • Ability to work on the tasks independently with little guidance.
