Job Description

Assists in the design, fabrication, and installation of novel electro mechanical designs for particle accelerator systems. Including; vacuum systems, water systems, synchrotron radiation beamlines, X-Ray front ends, and experimental apparatus for the Advanced Photon Source. Works with and under the supervision of mechanical engineers and X-Ray scientists. Receive and inspect, assemble and install parts needed for X-Ray instrumentation. Maintains all aspects of the electro mechanical assemblies that support the accelerators and scientists while performing all job functions safely and efficiently.

Position Requirements

Below is a list of minimum requirements in either of these areas:

  • Mechanical Experience: Proficient in the use of hand and shop tools such as drill presses, hydraulic presses, cut-off saws, tube benders and belt sanders.
  • Electrical Experience: Ability to use multi-meters and other basic measuring tools. Proficient in the installation and termination of basic electronic cabling system and control chassis.

Additional Requirements:

  • Careful workmanship, attention to detail, and accurate logging of data are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have experience in any of the areas below it could further qualify you:

  • Cleanroom assembly experience.
  • Experience with fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, inventory control and maintenance of instrumentation and programmable electronic equipment.
  • Cryogenic or vacuum technical experience.
  • Experience working as a technician at a synchrotron facility or laboratory.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements:

TECH Sr - Associate’s Degree and 5 years of experience or equivalent
