Job Description

Provide support to the principal investigator in the Advanced Mobility and Grid Integration Technology Research at the Center for Transportation Research. Assist in developing and administering experimental evaluations and conducting analysis of high power electric vehicle and electric vehicle charging system processes. These efforts will involve implementing unique hardware and software using open source, and off-the-shelf metering and data acquisition solutions directly on high power electric vehicles, coupled charging systems, and power distribution infrastructure. Programming languages and analysis tools along with strong knowledge of vehicle operation and testing methodologies will be leveraged to support activities in this position.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in electrical engineering or data analytics.

  • Skills in basic concepts of electrical engineering such as calculating and analyzing 3-phase AC and DC energy, power, and efficiency.

  • Organizational skills in managing complex data sets and analysis code so that documentation of results and reports are easily understood and shared.

  • Skills in using various computer-based data analysis and visualization languages and application (including but not limited to Python and common Python libraries, MATLAB).

  • Skills in electrical wiring: sensors, trouble shooting, and getting complex systems communicating and working.

  • Skills in database interaction, information extraction, and data manipulation.

  • Skills in oral and written communications at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of electric vehicle operation and charging, including high power charging system components and controls.

  • Understanding of vehicle networks like Controller Area Network (CAN).

  • Understanding of electric vehicle charging standards and protocols.
