Job DescriptionJob-Specific Responsibilities
We are seeking a committed and motivated research assistant to join a group effort to study the adaptive immune response to intracellular bacterial pathogens. Activities include propagation of organisms within cultured cells, infection of mice and detection of organisms in infected animal tissues, maintenance of tissue culture lines, and perform general lab maintenance and related duties.
College background and at least one year of related lab experience (relevant coursework may count toward experience).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree preferred. Prior experience using molecular genetics to characterize bacterial genes that influence virulence - and/or - prior experience with infection or genotyping of mice. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills; demonstrated abilities in laboratory and sterile techniques; ability to take direction; ability to work as part of a team; ability to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment; ability to work with hazardous materials and handle animals. Demonstrated commitment to a current or past research project in microbiology and/or immunology. Previous work in sterile techniques and tissue culture.
This is a 2-year term position from date of hire, with possibility of extension contingent on work performance and continued funding to support the position.
